Volume: 1.2 - 16th Rabi-ul-Awwal - 1424H

Expanding on our last issue's introduction on the nine miracles of Al Jame al Anwar, let us begin with the first and the most prominent: the emergence of a well.

One of the problems that complicated the task of the restoration of the Jame was the blockage of the water supply. With the grace of Allah, water spouted from the ground and when the digging reached the original levels of the foundation, a completely built well with its walls intact emerged. The construction around the well suggested that it had been a part of the original masjid.

However, people involved in the construction raised doubts about the purity of the water. Some hesitated to drink from it and some even suggested that the water be tested in a laboratory. In the midst of this, a local Egyptian drank the water and was cured of his illness. This made people realize that not only was the water pure and hygienic but also was endowed with curative properties.

Another interesting fact about this well was that the more the water was drawn from its depths, the more the water gushed in, suggesting that the groundwater was fed by an underground tributary of the Nile.

Munafiqeen, who were instrumental in delaying the construction process, spread rumours that the well was used for concealing weapons. This ridiculous accusation was proved false on the day of the inauguration, when the security personnel of the late President Anwar al Saadat's checked out the premises.

Today, thousands come to Al-Jamea Al-Anwar to drink from this well for barakat. They also hope to visit the place again as it is said that the one who drinks from the Nile is destined to visit Egypt again. The well is to al Jame al Anwar as the fountain of Zamzam is to Baitullah. The emergence of the well was nothing short of a miracle; its barakat is eternal.
