Tell us about yourself, your qualifications. How did you venture into this field?
I passed my SSC exams in 1976 from Taheri High School Mumbai. After SYJC from Jaihind College applied in Medical as well as Engineering Colleges for admission and got into Topiwalla National Medical College and B Y L Nair Hospital in 1978. After finishing my MBBS in 1983 I decided to do some surgical specialization and opted for E N T Surgery which I completed in 1986 and received a Gold Medal for Diploma exams and Stood 1st in Mumbai University for M S.
What is your field of specialization? For how long have you been practicing?
I started private practice in the year 1987 and got associated with Saifee Hospital in the year 1988. I got associated with the Municipal E N T Hospital, Fort Mumbai in the year 1992 where presently I am heading a unit. I visited Universities in Germany and Switzerland for advance training in the year 1993. My area of special interest is Ear Surgery and Endoscopic Laser surgery for Larynx.
You worked in the old Saifee Hospital earlier and then witnessed the new structure come up before your eyes. How would you describe this phenomenal change?
The old Saifee Hospital days can not be forgotten. Though it was a small hospital it had its own charm and we were like a small family. Many advance surgeries could not be done there due to lack of place and equipments where patients received shifa.
The present Saifee Hospital is just marvelous and all the departments are equipped with state of the art equipment. I remember a quote of our beloved Aqa Maula (TUS) at the time of the inauguration. “Mumineen love me a lot but I love them even more; the Saifee Hospital is an expression of this love and affection towards them.”
This new Hospital gave me an opportunity to start a Cochlear Implant Program for congenitally deaf children and with dua and raza mubarak of His Holiness I have done 5 implants that have all proved successful.
In what other capacity are you affiliated to this institute?
I am associated with the hospital as an E N T Consultant. I was also on the panel of Advisory Board at the inception of the new Hospital. At present I am a member of Medical Grants Committee and Indigent and Weaker section Committee.
During your practice did you encounter any such cases where the impossible became possible only by the dua mubarak of Aqa Maula (TUS)?
There are innumerable incidents where the impossible has become possible only because of Dua Mubarak of our Beloved Aqa Maula (TUS).
During surgery many a times you come across difficult situations and by taking the wasila of Aqa Maula (TUS) some invisible help arrives and problems are solved instantly.
There were 2 patients who had been admitted with sudden hearing loss and chances of their recovery was very faint. The moment araz was done in Hazrat Aliya they showed immediate signs of recovery and now their hearing has become near normal.
Any health related advise you would want to share with our readers?
There are certain common misconceptions which I would like to mention:
Cleaning of external ear canal with buds - This is absolutely wrong and not required as nature has provided a special skin in the ear canal which migrates outwards and gets washed off while bathing. I see lots of patients who have this habit and they come with blocked ears and ear pains due to infection.
Avoiding cold things in acute throat pains - In fact it is the other way around, one should take cold things to alleviate pain while avoid hot drinks.
Pouring hot boiling oil in the ear for acute ear pains- This can lead to perforation of the drum and deafness. Instead you should do hot fermentation and take pain relieving medication orally.
