Syedna Taher Saifuddin (RA) asserts:
مَن يَّتَّجِر بِتِجَارَةٍ مَندُوبَةٍ ِفي الذِّّ كرِ يَربـَحُ دَائِمًا لَـــم يخَسُرِ
One who adheres to the business principles laid down in the Quran e Majeed will always profit. He will never incur losses.
On Trade
The Quran e Majeed is the source of all knowledge. Hudat Kiram (AS) draw from this knowledge, when building the framework within which a mumin leads his life. Tijarat (trade), as everything else in a mumin’s life, is interwoven in the fabric of Shari’ at.
The Quran e Majeed lays down the principles of Islamic trade through numerous ‘ayats. Those that abide by these principles are commended; those who are deceitful are warned of retribution.
The core of the Fatemi philosophy with regard to trade is that Allah is the ultimate provider.
اِنّ الله هُوَ الرَّزَّاقُ ذُو القُوّةِ المَتِين
Other basic principles in the Quran include:
- Dealing only in halal commodities
- Maintaining business ethics
- Shunning interest in all transactions
Imam Zainul Abedeen (SA) has stated that nine tenths of rizq is encapsulated in trade while the remaining one tenth is from other sources.
Through the guidance of Du’at Kiram (RA), the Dawoodi Bohras for centuries have opted for the profession of traders. They are known and respected as a community of astute businessmen. Today, in the era of Syedna Mohammed Burhanuddin (TUS) mumineen have achieved greater heights than before. Firmly rooted in attaining halal rizq as per the guidelines of Shari’ at, they have branched out into many diverse areas of trade. Taking advantage of technology and science, they have created specialized niches for themselves and expanded their businesses.
In one bayan Aqa Maula (TUS) stated,
“Mumineen! Courage is required to make profit in business. Just as a brave warrior plunges into the battlefield so a brave hearted business man will make a profit. Do not be afraid, have courage! Indeed Allah is the provider and my dua is your insurance. Capital is required for every business and my dua is your capital. I wish that every one of you be a king among businessmen.”
…And trade
The word bay ‘at (oath of allegiance) is derived from the same root as the arabi word for trade. A mumin strikes a most favorable deal when he gives misaq to Waliullah (SA); as the Quran e Majeed states;
اِنّ اللهَ اشتَرْى مِنَ المُؤمِنِينَ اَنفُسَهُم وَ اَموَالهَــــُم بِاَنّ لهَــُـمُ الجَنّة
Allah has bought from mumineen their souls and their possessions and given them jannat in exchange.
This tijarat is one that safeguards mumineen from ‘azaab and guarantees them najaat. Truly, by the dua mubarak of Syedna Mohammed Burhanuddin (TUS) the tijarat of mumineen in duniya and aakherat is profitable.
