Syedna Al Khattab (AQ)

Syedna Al-Khattab bin Hasan Al Hamdani (AQ) was the Mazoon of Syedna Zoeb (RA), the first Dai al Mutlaq. He supported and helped Syedna Zoeb (RA) in establishing dawat in Yemen.

It so happened that a struggle broke out between Syedna Al Khattab(AQ) and his brother Sulayman after their father Hasan bin Abi Al Huffaz(AQ) passed away in 500 H. Many battles and skirmishes took place. Syedna Al Khattab(AQ) had gathered five hundred horsemen, and his brother was able to gather only three hundred. Syedna(AQ) emerged victorious in the year 514 H.

Sulayman retreated to his clan. He approached tribal heads, coerced them to support his cause and once more attempted to prevail over Syedna(AQ) in battle. He was unable to defeat him, for Syedna(AQ) had the help of the Sulayhids of Zijiblah. Syedna Al Khattab was the brother by rada`‘at of Maulatena Hurrat ul Maleka, who was the Sulayhid queen of Yemen.

Syedna Al Khattab was finally able to defeat his brother and kill him in battle. His brother had been a man of poor character, known for his treachery, cruelty and drinking habits.

Syedna(AQ) raised the children of his slain brother himself, but when they grew up, they were incited by enemies to avenge the death of their father. They turned on Syedna Al Khattab and plotted to kill him. Syedna Al Khattab(AQ) was martyred at their hands in the month of Safar in the year 533 H, just six months after the passing away of Maulatena Hurrat ul Maleka(AS).
