Syedna Yusuf Najmuddin bin Sulaiman (RA), the first of the Duat
of Hindustan, was the 24th Dai ul Mutlaq. One day as Syedna
jiwas resting under a tree, an astrologer who was passing by
remarked: “This man must not walk on the earth for he is
destined for greatness. He will become a king, and gain great
esteem.”
Syedna Yusuf (RA) was the youngest of seven brothers. One year,
on the day of Ghadeer, he requested his father for some money to
go for Hajj. His father granted the request and opted to
accompany him on his pilgrimage. After Hajj, father and son
journeyed to Yemen to the venerated court of Syedna Mohammed
Ezzuddin (RA), the 23rd Dai al Mutlaq. During this trip,
Syedna’s father passed away, and Syedna remained in Yemen.
Syedna Ezzuddin (RA), the last Dai of Yemen, transferred the
seat of dawat to India and appointed Syedna Najmuddin (RA) the
24th Dai al Mutlaq.
Syedna Najmuddin (RA) remained in India for five years, during
which he initiated an upliftment programme for the mumineen of
Sidhpur. He founded a neighborhood for mumineen, with a masjid,
housing and 24 shops.
When he returned to Yemen, he undertook the task of re-taking
the fortresses of dawat that had been overrun by the unfaithful.
He retook Akmat al Maagib first. Next he was victorious at
Kaahil and Haraz.
He performed nass on Syedna Jalal Shamsuddin (RA). People
informed Syedna (RA) about the ill health of Syedna Shamsuddin
(RA), but he replied: “No, he will not die. My nass shall reach
him and he will enter the annals of Duat Mutlaqeen and perform
nass on the two Dawoods before he passes away.” And so it was.
Syedna Najmuddin (RA) reigned for 28 years. He passed away on
the 16th of Zil Hijja in the year 974H. His qabar mubarak is in
Taeba, Hamdan. This was his residence and the place he favored
the most. Syedna Mohammed Burhanuddin (TUS), during the 1388 H.
trip to Yemen confirmed the place of his burial with the words:
“This is the qabar of Syedna Yusuf Najmuddin (SA).”
