Marvels of the Quran

Surat ur Rahman

Surat ur Rahman is a beautiful surat of the Quran e Majeed. It speaks of Allah’s remarkable creation and countless ne’mat (bounties) upon mankind.

Scientists researching nature have been amazed at the accurate mention of their recent discoveries in the Quran e Majeed.

Among other things, Surat ur Rahman speaks of:

• Waters, sweet and salty that meet but do not mix; there is a barrier between them.
Oceanographers recently discovered that a barrier caused by surface tension prevents two seas from intermingling.

• Two easts and two wests
Scientists discovered the sun is observed to rise and set from different points in the east and west as the seasons change.

And which of your Lord’s bounties will you deny?”

A challenge

One ‘ayat in this surat has been the cause of many interpretations. It is in the form of a challenge, a challenge to ins (mankind) and jinn.

O jinn and ins, if you are able to penetrate the skies and the earth then do so, you are welcome to try, if you can; but you will never penetrate the heavens without a sultan.

Interpreters define this as a marvel of the Quran, a miracle wherein the Quran e Majeed predicts events that will occur more than a thousand years after Rasulullah (SAW); man will one day, conquer space, and traverse through the skies reaching the moon and beyond.
To this effect, interpreters wrongly pronounce sultan to mean a rocket. Some say it means power or ‘authority’. It has even been pointed out that the first Muslim astronaut was named Sultan.

Syedna Mohammed Burhanuddin (TUS) explains: It is a challenge-if you can penetrate the regions of the skies and earth then do so-no one will stop you; but you will never do so without the Sultan. Imam uz zaman (SA) is that Sultan: it is only with him that the soul will traverse the skies and reach beyond.
