Q. Any person who enters the masjid must pray the two rakaats of Tahiyyat ul Masjid. At which times can Tahiyyat ul Masjid be prayed?

A. Tahiyyat ul Masjid can be prayed at the times of any farizat namaaz. On Friday, it can be also prayed from sunrise until zawal.

Q. Which surat should one pray in Tahiyyat ul Masjid?

A. One should pray the surat in descending order. In the first rakaat, one should pray Al-Hamd and Qul Aoozo berabbin falaq, and in the second Al-Hamd and Qul Aoozo berabbil naas . 

Q. If the Imam has started fajr faraz, and a person coming in late realizing that he has time for only one salaam: either Tahiyyat ul Masjid or fajr sunnat which should he pray?

A. He should pray Tahiyyat ul Masjid; the fajr sunnat can be repeated as qaza later. However if the Imam is Imam uz Zaman ^(SA) or Dai al Multlaq, then he should not even pray Tahiyyat ul Masjid but should in fact join the imamat namaaz immediately.
