Urs Mubarak

Syedna Abdullah Fakhruddin (RA)

In the year 1381 H., during his visit to Yemen, Aqa Maula (TUS) climbed up the mountain of Zimarmar in Yemen, where lies the quboor mubarak of 4 Dais and a Mazoon. The fort atop Zimarmar was said to be the strongest in all of Yemen, and Zimarmar was the residence of several Duat in the past. As Syedna (TUS) was ascending the steep incline, a boulder came loose, but by miracle stopped just in time. This incident will be written in history.

One of the Duat that are buried in Hisn e Zimarmar is Syedna Fakhruddin (RA). Syedna Fakhruddin (RA) was conferred with nass by his predecessor, Syedna Abbas (RA). When Syedna Abbas (RA) passed away, the nobles expressed the wish to renew their allegiance to their new Dai. Together with Qadi Sultan Yusuf bin Ali bin Al Sulayhi, they went to Sheikh Hassan bin Dai Ali bin Dai Ibrahim and asked him to represent them before Syedna Fakhruddin (RA).

Qadi al Sulayhi said: Syedna Abdullah Fakhruddin (RA) is the nephew of Syedna Abbas and the rightful heir to the throne of Dai. You must step forward to renew your allegiances, and we shall follow. We must abide by what we are bound, and that is obedience to the head of dawat, and by our loyalty to him we are loyal to those who preceded him.

The nobles led by Qadi Al Sulayhi arrived at the court of Syedna Fakhruddin (RA) and renewed their misaq. Syedna Fakhruddin (RA) also wrote to Sheikh Ali bin Abdullah al Shibani and the nobles of Haraz to follow suit, and they hurried to offer him their loyalties and obeyed the summons. They flocked to his court to receive from his bounty, knowledge and wisdom.

When Sheikh Shibani arrived, he was awed by the nobility of Sheikh Hussein, the son of the Dai. Sheikh Shibani suggested to Syedna Abdullah Fakhruddin (RA) that there was no one better than Sheikh Husain to uphold dawat. Syedna Fakhruddin (RA) assigned Sheikh Husain as his mansus, and put him through various trials. Sheikh Husain exceeded all expectations. He even surpassed his mentor, Sheikh Shibani. Syedna Fakhruddin’s (RA) had two other sons: Sheikh Abdulmuttalib who was a warrior, and Sheikh Hassan who was an erudite scholar.

In the year 796 H. a traitor gave Sheikh Hussein poisoned dates and he died soon after. Syedna Fakhruddin (RA) bore the death of his beloved son and would-be successor with sabr. He appointed Syedna Hassan to shoulder the responsibilities of Dai al Mutlaq.

Syedna Fakhruddin (RA) composed qasaid known as the “muqayyad ut tarafain” in which every verse in the qasida begins and ends with the same haraf (letter). Syedna Fakhruddin (RA) guided the mumineen of Yemen in matters spiritual and temporal for 30 years. He passed away at the age of 85 in the month of Ramadan in the year 809 H. His qabr mubarak is in Hisn-e-Zimarmar.
