Having a Pinch of Salt Before and After Every Meal

After saying بسم الله الرحمن الرحيم taking a pinch of salt is the first certain action that every mumin, muminah and their children take before consuming a meal. A pinch of salt is also the final action that ends every meal.

Imam AS has said that having a pinch of salt before and after every meal wards off seventy-two types of illnesses and diseases; the least of which is insanity.

Salt is called ملح in Arabic. Al-Dai al-Ajal al-Muqaddas Syedna Mohammed Burhanuddin RA highlights the significance of having a pinch of salt by saying that ملح has three letters;

م , ل and ح.

‎م (meem) stands for Maulana Mohammed Rasulullah SAW and Maulatona Fatema AS.

ل (laam) is for Maulana Ali AS.

ح (Haa) alludes towards Imam Hasan AS and Imam Husain AS.

Hence, by taking a pinch of salt before and after every meal every Mumin expresses his mohabbat for Panjatan Paak AS. He proclaims that every Ne´mat that he receives is the blessing of Awliya’ullah AS.

A pinch of salt wards off seventy-two types of diseases. Likewise, the mohabbat of Panjatan Paak AS, Aimmat Tahereen AS and Doat Mutlaqeen RA shields mumineen from ailments that afflict souls and minds.

Al-Dai al-Ajal Syedna Aali Qadr Mufaddal Saifuddin TUS once pointed out that both the young and old alike compete to pick up the namak daani when the thaal is placed. This indeed is an act of barakat. It is believed that the one who holds the namak daani for others to take a pinch of salt from gets blessed with the ziyaarat of Maulana Imam Husain AS in Karbala al-Mo´alla.

How blessed would be a mumin who receives the honour of offering salt to Syedna al-Dai al-Ajal TUS. Syedna Mohammed Burhanuddin RA would graciously grant mumineen the honor of holding namak daani during their ziyaafat. Syedna Aali Qadr TUS follows in his footsteps.

Other schools of thought may try to inflict harm by targeting religion, culture and traditions. An improper education may influence minds to take every religious teaching with a pinch of salt. However, each mumin unfailingly starts and ends his meals with a pinch of salt firmly believing in its benefits.

May Allah grant a long and healthy life to Syedna Aali Qadr Mufaddal Saifuddin TUS the custodian of Thaqaafat Fatemiyah till the day of Qiyaamat. Amin.
