Allah says in the Quran:
And Allah gave you the faculties of hearing, sight, feeling and understanding, little thanks do ye give.
The eyes of a human being are of grave importance because they not only allow him to view the wonders of the universe around him but they are also windows through which their hearts look at the creations of almighty Allah with awe and gratitude. To have a clear vision it is important that we look after our eyes, shariat instructs us on how to do this.
Rasulullah (SA) has taught that during wuzu we must splash adequate water in our eyes. Doing this regularly keeps them naturally clean, washing away infectious germs and dirt particles.
Applying kajal is beneficial to the eyes. It should be applied an odd number of times: i.e. once, thrice and so forth.
When the eye is infected, dates are not to be eaten. Rasulullah (SA) once saw Salman ul Farsi eating dates with an infected eye. Rasulullah (SA) instructed that if he must eat dates, he should eat them with the left side if the right eye was infected and vice versa.
Tears are nature's way of keeping the eyes healthy. Our eyes are lubricated by tears that are produced by glands around the eye.
Aqa Maula (TUS) stated that the recitation of this verse alleviates pain in the eyes:
(Whenever my eyes are infected, the kajal I apply is the dust that has touched the sandals of Amir ul mumineen (AS).)
Aqa Maula (TUS) prescribed the application of a gold stick to the eye for enhanced vision.
