The birds in Kerbala

This is a story of a time and a place whose mention brings tears to our eyes and sorrow to our hearts even today- of course we are talking about that fateful day in Kerbala when Aqa Husain (AS) gave his life for our najaat.

It was on this day that a lone bird flew over the terrible scene and observed the suffering of those who fought against the evil armies of Yazid. Its heart full of pain, it flew to a tree on which some birds were perched. The birds were chattering among themselves. They were worried about the shortage of food and water and how they would survive. The first bird listened to the others for a while. Then it could not keep silent any longer. "You are concerned only about yourselves," it exclaimed, "do you know how Husain (AS), grandson of Mohammed Rasulallah (SA) and his Ahl e Bait are suffering?" It then told the birds how Yazids's armies had cut off food and water from Aqa Husain (AS) and his Ahl e Bait, and about their pain and agony.

The birds became sad on hearing the story. However, they said, "We are just tiny birds, what can we do? We do not have hands and feet, how can we take food and water to Kerbala?" Whereupon, one bird replied, "We may not have hands, but we have beaks. Each one of us can take a drop of water in our beaks to Karbala" All the birds agreed to this plan, happy that they could be of service to Aqa Husain (AS).

The first bird was thrilled to hear this, and it quickly flew to the battlefield to give the good news to Aqa Husain (AS). When it reached the plain of Kerbala, it saw Husain (AS) wounded and in pain, but fighting the enemy with such power that they trembled when he attacked.

"We will bring water to you," the bird cried to Husain (AS), and told him of the birds' plan. Aqa Husain (AS) looked at the bird and said, "For three days, my Ahl e bait have suffered the agony of hunger and thirst. My young son Ali Akbar pleaded to me, العطش العطش but I could give him no water before he died; my six month old child writhed with thirst before he was killed by the enemy's arrow, Having seen all of this right before my eyes, how can I accept your offer and satisfy my thirst?"

Just then Laeen Shimar approached with his blunt sword…
