One day, Maulana Ali (AS) took Jabir to an island where there was a tree that had dried up. Maulana Ali (AS) asked Jabir to offer salaams to the tree. Jabir did as he was told and asked the tree why it did not have any leaves.

Said the tree: "Please seek the kindness of our Maula (AS) towards me. Maulana Ali (AS) used to come sit under the tree once in forty days, and my branches would bloom. However, it has been a long time since Maula Ali's (AS) last visit and I have not been able to receive the honour of deedar; hence, my barren state."

Jabir conveyed the same to Maulana Ali (AS) who responded with a smile. "Jabir, stroke the bark of the tree with your hands." Jabir did as he was told, and within seconds the tree blossomed anew with fresh leaves!
