Maulana Ali Zain ul Aabedeen (AS)
Zain ul Aabedeen (AS)---the celestial laqab of the Imam
testifies to his unparalleled ebadat. He prayed a thousand
raka’at every night; he was the qibla of worshippers.
But how did the Imam (AS) acquire this laqab, Zain ul
Aabedeen?
One night the Imam (AS) was in the mehrab, praying. Satan
took the form of a serpent and appeared at his foot
intending to distract him. The Imam (AS) unmoved, continued
with his namaz. The serpent continued to disturb the Imam
(AS), but still did not succeed in diverting him. When the
Imam (AS) had finished, Allah revealed to him that the snake
was indeed Satan. The Imam (AS) hit at the serpent, slighted
it, and continued with his prayer.
In the silence of the night a voice called out three times,
“You are indeed Zain ul Aabedeen”. The voice was heard, but
the caller was not seen.
