Says Rasulullah (SA): "Do not treat me as the rider does his water flask". Syedna Qadin Noaman (RA) clarifies this metaphor thus: the rider carries with him on his journey a water flask amongst other things. When thirsty he drinks from it, and that done, puts it away in any odd corner in the saddle. He forgets about it; only if thirsty will the water flask be remembered again.

Rasulullah (SA) urges mumineen to pray salawaat on him and recount his zikr repeatedly, day and night, in the beginning and the end; not sporadically----that is the metaphor.

Salawaat is recognized and accepted only if the Duat kiram (RA) of Rasulullah (SA) are included in the salawaat. "Wasal" meaning to link is a derivation of salawaat: the Duat should indeed be linked with Rasulullah (SA) in salawaat.

When a mumin prays salawaat, the angel present by the qabar of Rasulullah (SA) informs him about it. Rasulullah (SA) in reply asks the angel to pray salawaat on the mumin, in turn.
