Ramadan is an auspicious month--a month of fasting, a month of prayer, a month of absolution, a month of abstinence and temperance, a month of bounty and barakaat for those who know and recognize its worth. Rasulullah (SA) says: "O Ali, Rajab is your month, Shabaan is my month and Ramadan is the month of Allah."
Mumineen begin the thirty days of fasting with the rise of the hilal (new moon) of Ramadan and break their fast with the rise of the hilal on the first of Shawwal. Following the example of Aqa Maula(TUS), mumineen engage themselves in recitation of Quran e Majeed, munajaat, dua and visits to the masjid for
imamat namaaz.
The first ten days are of
(mercy), followed by the next ten of
(absolution), and finally of
(deliverance from hell).
Quran e Majeed was revealed to Mohammed Rasulullah (SA) in Ramadan. Lailatul Qadar, the night that is superior to a 1000 months of ebadat, falls in the final ten days of Ramadan. It is related that a mumin from the Juhaina tribe approached Rasulullah (SA) and asked, : I own cattle, camels and slaves. Therefore direct me one night in Shehre Ramadan that I should spend in ebadat. Rasulullah (SA) whispered a few words in the man's ear. It was observed thereafter, that the man came to Medina every year with his family on the 23rd of Ramadan.
Lailat ul Qadar is associated with Maulatuna Fatema (AS), who spent the night in vigilance and taught others to follow her example. She roused little children who had dozed off with a splash of water so that none were deprived of the barakat of this auspicious night.
Lailat ul Qadar begins with sunset on the 22nd day and ends with sunrise the next morning. Sleep is forbidden in this night and its hours are occupied in prayer, munajaat, tasbeeh and dua.
The three other auspicious nights of Ramadan are the 17th, 19th and 21st that are associated with Amena binte Wahab (mother of Rasulullah (SA)), Fatema binte Asad (mother of Amir ul Mumineen (SA)) and Khadija binte Khuwaylid (mother of Fatema (AS)) respectively. Amir ul Mumineen (SA) was martyred at dawn on the 19th of Shehre Ramadan.
The sawab of praying tatawwo namaaz (non-farizat) in Ramadan is equivalent to praying farizat namaaz. And the sawab of praying farizat namaaz in this month amounts to 70 such prayers. The sawab multiplies for the mumin who attends imamat namaaz.
It is said that even the breath of a person fasting is tasbeeh
- let us engage every breath with dua for Aqa Maula (TUS) who always remembers us in his prayers.
