Obesity is spreading to parts of the world that once worried about getting enough to eat.
The health risks are as enormous as our waistlines. How did we all get so fat? It is said that after the death of Rasulullah (SA) one of the first diseases to plague society was obesity.
Today the problem stems from a number of modern trends, rising affluence & urbanization. So how do we battle this bulging problem is what we often find people asking themselves (& others). There are many fad diets available on the shelves which promise to make you look slimmer instantly! But the question is: do they work? Once you go-off the diet, won't those inches start growing back on you? Nobody can stay 'on-a-diet' for a lifetime.
Rasulullah (SA) has affirmed, "Control your eating and you shall please the angels." The Imam (AS) has said that asceticism and controlled eating promotes a number of virtues. It improves health, sharpens the intellect and encourages activity. Gluttony on the other hand is connected to fifty vices, among them greed, shamelessness, and ignorance.
