Marvels of the Quran

Mu'awwizatain

Two surat that were revealed together to Rasulullah (SAW), two surat that, when recited form a protective barrier against Shaitaan and his evil, two surat that heal both body and soul, a pair that no other surat can compare to in significance-such are the Mu'awwizatain-Sura tun Naas and Sura tul Falaq.

Significance:

Rasulullah (saw) states:

  • Two surat have been revealed to me that no other surat can compare to
  • You will find no surat that is beloved to Allah or pleases him more than these two surat.
  • The one who recites the Mu‘awwizatain is like one who has recited all the revealed books.

Protection and Healing:

  • Rasulullah saw recited the two surat whenever he was affected by an evil eye or headache. He would spread out both hands and recite Sura tul Fateha, Sura tul Falaq and Surat un Naas, then pass his hands over his face. The pain would subside.

  • When Hasan (SA) and Husain (SA) were born Rasulullah saw instructed Amirul Mumineen sa to recite the azaan and iqamat in their ears then recite Surat ul Hamd, Ayat ul Kursi the last few ‘ayat of Al Hashr, Surat ul Ikhlaas and the Muawwizatain. Mumineen follow this example, and ward off the evils of Shaitaan with these ‘ayaat of Quran e Majeed.

Taweez:

  • The words معوذتين and تعويذ stem from the same root عوذ which means to protect and fortify. Depending on its function a taweez (talisman) is worn around the neck, framed in a house, or even placed in a cash box (for barakat).

  • Rasulullah (saw) forbid the use of any taweez other than those which are composed from ‘ayaat of the Quran e Majeed. Awliyaullah (SA) have the knowledge as to what ‘ayaat of the Quran e Majeed are written for a taweez.

  • Amulets, spells and charms are black magic. They do more harm than good and it is imperative to be wary of them.
