When Imam Husain (SA) was born, Allah instructed Jibraeel to offer tehniyat and t‘aziyat to Rasulullah (SAW).
Rasulallah (SAW) inquired: I accept the tehniyat, but why do you offer me t‘aziyat?
Jibraeel asked Rasulullah (SAW) to look at Imam Husain’s (AS) neck. Rasulallah (SAW) saw a line – a red line on Imam Husain’s (SA) neck.
Rasulullah (SAW) asked what the line was. Jibraeel replied that it was a sign of “qatl”. He informed Rasulullah (SAW) that Imam Husain (SA) would be martyred in Karbala-- all by himself. It would be a time when there would be no one left-- not Rasulullah (SAW), nor his father Ali (SA), nor his mother Fatema (SA), nor even his brother Hasan (SA).
Amir ul Mumineen (SA) and Maulatuna Fatema (SA) began to cry. Maulatuna Fatema (SA) asked, “By what sin will the tyrants kill Husain? Where and when will they kill Husain?”
Rasulullah (SAW) replied, “The oppressors will kill him at a time when neither me nor you shall be alive!”
Fatema (SA) cried out: “If we do not live then who shall do matam for him?”
At that very moment a call was heard from the heavens, “In years to come, a faction from amongst your father’s followers will perform the matam of Husain every year!”
Aqa Maula Syedna Mohaamed Burhanuddin (TUS) stated. “I and you are those people: we are the ones who do matam on Imam Husain (SA) every year”.
