The Lion and the Magician

There was once a man who went to Al Afzal and stayed over at his house. Each time food was served, the dishes would rise four feet in the air. Al Afzal was astonished by what he saw. He went to Imam Amir (AS) and informed him of what he had seen. Imam Amir (AS) commanded Al Afzal to bring the man along the following day. The next day the man came to the Imam and repeated his magical feat. Imam Amir (AS) asked everyone present: Were you surprised by what you saw? "Yes!" they all replied. Imam Amir asked, "Would you like to see something that is more surprising?" "Yes, O Imam Amir!" they said in answer.

Some of the palace curtains had lions on them. Imam Amir (AS) looked at the curtain nearest to the magician, and pointing towards the image of the lion; ordered it to eat up the man. The curtain moved, and the man was swallowed. The people began to search for the magician behind the curtains but he was nowhere to be found. By the miracle of the Imam (AS) the image of the lion had sprung into life and swallowed up the magician. The hoax of the magician was destroyed by the miracle of the Imam (AS).
