During the age of Rasulullah (SA), there was a Jewish girl who used to play with Ansaar girls. From them, she had learnt to say Bismillah, she would recite it before eating or drinking. Soon she was married and went to live with her in-laws. She would recite Bismillah before anything she did in the house. Her in-laws warned her that reciting Bismillah was an Islamic belief, and that she should not recite it. She replied: I shall continue to recite Bismillah until the day I die. The in-laws discussed the matter, and decided to kill the girl. They placed a live snake inside a pot of salt, then asked the girl to get some. The girl recited Bismillah before putting her hand inside the pot. She scooped up some salt and brought it back to the house. The snake did not harm her. The husband and in-laws were surprised and they began to believe that Bismillah was indeed an expression of truth. They recited it themselves and embraced Islam. They became Muslimeen by the barakat of Bismillah.
