The enormity of the rebuilding of al Jame ul Anwar can be gauged from the fact that the United Nation's cultural and educational organ, the UNICEF, started the restoration project, repaired a small area on the left side, and then gave up.
There were many factors that contributed to the withdrawal of the UNICEF. These include the nature of the restoration which in itself was a Herculean task, the challenge of restoring the masjid to its original condition; the non-conducive atmosphere prevailing at the time; the misgivings on the part of the local people; topographical problems and the apathy of the government.
It was Maula's (TUS) determination and fortitude that lead the project to its completion. The honor of the restoration of Imam Hakim's (AS) masjid had indeed been reserved for the 52nd Dai al Mutlaq.
